The Inclusive Adolescence Education program is a dual certification program comprised of the Inclusive Adolescence Education major and a content area concentration/major. The program results in certification in Adolescence Education (grades 7-12) in the chosen content area and Students with Disabilities Generalist (all grades). Students have the option of adding Middle School Extension (grades 5-6) in the content area. This program is designed to prepare candidates to teach in one of the following disciplines:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth Science
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Social Studies (History or American Studies)
  • Spanish

New York State requires that students take courses in the following areas:

  • English - Choose one ENG course from 201 and above
  • Math - Choose two (2) from any of the following: MTH 150, 160, 161, 162, 165, 175 and above
  • Natural Science - Choose two (2) from any of the following: BIO, CHE, GEO, PHY, SCI
  • Social Studies - Choose two (2) from any of the following: HIS, SOC, ECO, POS, or GEG

Content Area Major/Concentration Requirements

  • American Studies: Choose courses from the following: HIS 111, 112; ENG 203 or 204 or 210; ECO 111 or 112; POS 102 or 210
  • Biology: BIO 155, 156, CHE 151, 152
  • Chemistry: CHE 151, 152, 251, 252
  • English: Choose three courses from: ENG 201, 202, 203, 204, ENG 210, 218
  • History: HIS 111, 112, 113, 114; EO 111 or 112; POS 102
  • Mathematics: MTH 210, 211, 212, 220, 230
  • Physics: PHY 145. 146, MTH 210 and 211
  • Spanish: SPA 101 - 104

Additional Notes

A grade of C or higher is required in all courses used toward the education major. A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher is required for continuation at 海角社区.

Students must submit a formal transfer application the semester before intended enrollment.
